The previous article explored creating an inviting, flexible outdoor space for hosting gatherings.
we agreed
that we need to define the purpose of the patio, select suitable furniture, and
incorporate soft furnishings to enhance comfort and style.
Now we have to discuss the second Important Item in our strategy to ensure that your patio can
provide the ideal space for entertaining.
The Lighting
Lighting is
key for creating ambiance and allowing guests to see when entertaining in the
evening. Here are some top options for lighting up your patio:
String Lights
String lights instantly add ambiance and a festive touch to any patio. Opt for classic white bulbs or go bold with colored bulbs. Use hooks or clips to run the lights along your patio's fence, roofline, or the branches of trees.
For added sparkle, choose string lights with crystal or globe bulbs.
Draping the lights
overhanging the seating area will provide direct illumination for your guests.
Lanterns
Lanterns cast a warm, inviting glow for patio entertaining. Place lanterns on tables, hang them from hooks around the patio or line them up along the ground.
Choose
metal, glass, or rattan lanterns with either electronic or real candle flames.
Mix lantern styles and heights for visual interest.
Tiki Torches
For tropical flair, decorate with tiki torches around the patio's perimeter. The flickering flames create an exotic environment and provide plenty of light. Search for quality hardwood or bamboo torches that will resist weathering.
Use citronella
fuel to keep mosquitoes at bay. Arrange symmetrical rows of tiki torches or
place them sporadically.
Solar Lights
Solar path lights, spotlights, and string lights are easy lighting options requiring no wiring. Solar lights charge up from the sun during the day, then automatically turn on at night. Place solar spotlights to illuminate steps and walking paths.
Edge the patio with small solar path lights. Use solar string lights to
decorate trees and fences. Solar stake lights also help mark boundaries and
prevent guests from tripping.
In the next article, we will focus on the third important item in our strategy (The Plants) and how it enhances your patio and changes into heaven.
